Signs that deserve an evaluation
You do not need to diagnose the problem yourself. Contact the office if you have persistent or worsening tooth pain, lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, pain with biting pressure, swelling or tenderness, discoloration, a crack or injury, a gum bump, or concern about an abscess.
Your general dentist may refer you after identifying a problem, but a referral is not required to call KC Endodontics and ask about an evaluation.
Why see an endodontist?
Endodontists focus on diagnosing tooth pain and treating the dental pulp and tissues around the root. Specialist training, focused diagnostic testing, and technology designed for complex tooth anatomy can be especially helpful for molars, previously treated teeth, unusual canal systems, and symptoms that are difficult to pinpoint.
At KC Endodontics, the goal is not simply to complete a procedure. It is to understand the source of the problem, explain whether the tooth can be saved, and coordinate the next step with your restorative dentist.
From your first call to your restored tooth
- Call the office. Tell the team what you are feeling and whether you have swelling, an injury, or another urgent concern.
- Complete a specialist evaluation. Dr. Moore reviews the tooth, diagnostic findings, and treatment options with you.
- Receive treatment when appropriate. The team keeps you informed and prioritizes comfort throughout the visit.
- Return to your restorative dentist. A permanent filling, crown, or other restoration is usually needed to protect the tooth after root canal treatment.

Common questions
Will I be numb during treatment?
Local anesthesia is used to numb the tooth and surrounding area. If you have concerns about comfort or dental anxiety, discuss them with the team before treatment begins.
Can an infected or abscessed tooth be treated?
Often, yes. Root canal treatment is designed to remove infected tissue from inside a restorable tooth. The evaluation determines whether the tooth can be predictably saved and whether any additional care is needed.
What if I have facial swelling?
Call promptly and describe the location and extent of the swelling. Rapidly increasing swelling, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or other severe symptoms require immediate emergency medical attention.
What happens after the root canal?
You will generally return to your restorative dentist for the final filling, crown, or other restoration. Avoid chewing heavily on the treated tooth until that permanent restoration is complete.
