Follow the instructions for your specific visit
Most nonsurgical endodontic treatment is completed with local anesthesia. Many patients can return to ordinary activities afterward, but this can change when sedation, medical conditions, or the planned procedure require different preparation.
Meals and hydration
Unless KC Endodontics has instructed you to fast or modify eating because of sedation or another concern, eat a normal meal before your appointment. Call before the visit if you are uncertain about eating instructions.
Medications and premedication
Continue physician-prescribed medications unless the office or prescribing clinician has told you otherwise. If you have been instructed to take antibiotic premedication before dental care, confirm that plan with the office in advance.
Do not take additional pain medicine or anti-inflammatory medicine specifically for the procedure unless it is safe for you and has been recommended by an appropriate clinician. Medication choices can be affected by allergies, pregnancy, kidney or liver disease, stomach conditions, blood thinners, and other health factors.
Tell the team before treatment if you have
- A new illness, fever, respiratory symptoms, or health change
- A medication change or newly prescribed blood thinner
- A medication or latex allergy
- Pregnancy or the possibility of pregnancy
- A history of problems with anesthesia or sedation
- A heart, joint, bleeding, immune, or other condition that may affect dental care
Transportation
Local anesthesia alone may not require a driver. Nitrous oxide, oral medication, or another form of sedation can change transportation requirements. Follow the instructions provided for your appointment and arrange an adult escort when directed.
